Kamfa Flowerhorn Grade A — Premium Freshwater Cichlid

The Kamfa Flowerhorn is a stunning hybrid cichlid prized for its vibrant coloration, distinctive head shape, and dynamic personality. Grade A specimens showcase intense red, orange, and yellow hues with bold black markings and well-developed nuchal humps.

Origin & Background

Kamfa Flowerhorns originated in Southeast Asia through selective breeding programs, combining Vieja and other cichlid species to create their signature look. They have become one of the most sought-after ornamental cichlids in the aquarium hobby.

Appearance & Sexual Dimorphism

Males develop larger nuchal humps, more elongated dorsal fins, and deeper coloration. Females remain slightly smaller with less pronounced humps and softer fin edges. Both sexes display striking patterns that intensify with age and breeding condition.

Temperament

Kamfas are highly intelligent and territorial. Males are notably aggressive, especially toward other cichlids and tank mates. They require species-only or carefully selected community setups. Both sexes display personality and will recognize their keeper. Handle with caution during feeding and maintenance.

Water Parameters

Temperature: 74–82°F (23–28°C)
pH: 6.5–7.5
Hardness: 10–15 dGH
Ammonia & Nitrite: 0 ppm
Nitrate: Below 20 ppm

Tank size: Minimum 75 gallons for a single fish; pairs require 125+ gallons with secure dividers.

Diet

Kamfas are carnivorous. Feed high-quality cichlid pellets, live or frozen bloodworms, brine shrimp, and occasional earthworms. Vary diet to enhance coloration. Feed juveniles 2–3 times daily; adults once or twice daily.

Mating & Breeding

Pairs form strong bonds and are prolific breeders. Breeding condition requires excellent water quality and stable temperatures near 80°F. Females lay 500–1,000+ eggs on flat surfaces. Both parents guard fry intensely. Remove parents after fry become free-swimming to prevent cannibalism, or provide separate rearing tank.
