Convict Cichlid

The Convict Cichlid is a hardy, compact cichlid prized for its striking black and white striped pattern and bold personality. Growing to 4-6 inches, these fish thrive in 20-gallon tanks with moderate water flow and plenty of hiding spots. They are highly territorial and aggressive during breeding, making them best suited for species-specific or large community setups with similarly-sized, robust fish.

Convicts are prolific breeders with devoted parental care, making them excellent for hobbyists interested in cichlid reproduction. They prefer slightly acidic to neutral water (pH 6.5-7.5) and temperatures between 75-82°F. Feed a varied diet of high-quality pellets, frozen foods, and occasional live prey. Their durability and entertaining behavior make them a rewarding choice for intermediate to advanced aquarists.
